Inside the Sessions!

This is where you can find info on each of the sessions if you ever miss one! It will include the gist of the information shared, pictures, and slideshows!

Session 1 Overview

Our first GIIFTED session was an exciting introduction to the program, filled with great questions and conversations about investing. We explored key concepts such as the benefits of investing for both long-term growth and quicker gains, and discovered the incredible impact of compounding over time. Participants also learned what shares are, what they represent, and what it means to own a piece of a company. It was a great start to our journey together—below are some photos capturing the energy and engagement from the day!

Session 2 Overview

Missed the second session? No worries! We took a deeper dive into the stock market and how it works. You learned how to buy shares using easy-to-understand platforms like Investopedia, making investing accessible and fun. We also explored how to read simple company analytics to get a sense of whether a company might be a good investment. Everyone even got to try buying their first share on Investopedia’s virtual platform — a great hands-on experience! Below are the photos from the session.

Session 3 Overview

In session three, we explored how companies actually make or lose money, using real-world examples to make these concepts easy to grasp. We discussed different revenue streams companies can have—like selling products, offering services, or earning through subscriptions—and how expenses like salaries, rent, and marketing impact their profits.we played a Kahoot-style quiz where everyone tested their knowledge on company profits, losses, and basic business terms. Then, in a Shark Tank-style group activity, participants teamed up to brainstorm and pitch their own business ideas, evaluating potential profitability and risks. Below are the photos from the session as well as the slideshow link.

Session 4 Overview

We dove deep into the world of debit and credit cards—two tools many of us use daily but don’t always fully understand. We went thorough exactly how debit cards draw money directly from your bank account, while credit cards let you borrow money up to a limit, which you pay back later. The key differences, such as how debit cards help you stay within your budget since you use your own money, whereas credit cards can build your credit history but also come with risks if not managed carefully, were discussed. We also talked about how using credit cards responsibly can improve your credit score, which is important for future big purchases like a car or home.

This session also covered important tips on avoiding debt—like paying your credit card bill on time and not overspending—and how interest works if you carry a balance.

Session 5 Overview

This session served as a full-circle review of everything we’ve learned so far in GIIFTED! Participants revisited the basics of investing — from understanding shares and compounding growth to exploring how companies make and lose money and the real-world differences between debit and credit cards. The recap gave returning members the chance to strengthen what they’ve learned, while new attendees were able to catch up through group discussions, games, and collaborative activities.

Everyone reflected on how each topic connects to real life and how these financial skills can shape smarter money habits for the future. It was the perfect reset before diving into new topics in upcoming sessions!
